12 Jan Get Social!
It’s time to get social! Every brand or business should take advantage of social media. There is no excuse not to use it. It is free, and there is the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of potential clients that need your service or product. Follow these three tips to be on your way to successfully utilizing social media.
Find Your Platform
Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest, and the list goes on. How do you decide what platforms you need to be utilizing? It is important to have a strategy to reach your target demographic, so you aren’t spending a ton of time or money on a platform that doesn’t really attract or cater to your target audience. The first step to finding your platform is to write down the age and interests of your target demographic. Take a few minutes to search what social media platforms are utilized by the demographic you wish to reach and then sign up, create your page or profile, and start showing the world your amazing brand!
Claim Your Name
Once you have decided on the social media platforms that will be the most effective in reaching your target audience, it is time to claim your name. All social media platforms will require you to have a name or a “handle” for your page or account. Open up each platform you plan to utilize and search your businesses name. There is always the possibility that your name has already been claimed by a someone who thought Coffee Perks, Enjoy Records, or Makeup Forever, were cool usernames or handles before you could claim them. If that is the case, consider using the word official, adding your phone number’s area code, or an abbreviation of the state you operate in after your company name. Claiming a username that you can use across all platforms will help you stay consistent and make it easier for people to find your accounts.
One of the quickest ways to lose followers and overall interest in your pages and profiles is to let your pages go dormant. We know that you may not have a ton of time to commit to social media, but create a plan and stick to it! If you decide you can commit to posting three images to Instagram, four statuses on Facebook, and seven Tweets a week, then be sure to stick to your plan and stay consistent. Not only stay consistent with your posts but create consistency in the quality of content you are pumping out on your social media platforms. If you do not feel that you have quality content for seven Tweets, then choose to send out three quality Tweets each week instead. You may be asking yourself how in the world you are going to remember to jump on social media to post during your busy days, well the good news is, there are many programs out there that can help you pre-schedule your social media posts!
Now that you have a starting point for social media, it is time to create your accounts, start posting, and get social!
